Selective mini grammar

In this section we introduce basic grammatical terminology and concepts that are used in other parts of AWELU. In general, definitions and explanations are given in increasing order of difficulty or detail. The first section introduces, at a very basic level, the four major word classes, nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. Each word class is then dealt with two times more, in terms of morphology and syntax. The syntactic properties of the word classes are most thoroughly dealt with under the headings Noun phrases, Verb phrases, Adjective phrases, and Adverb phrases. Two important functional word classes are discussed in separate sections, namely pronouns and prepositions. Finally, clauses and their parts are discussed, with a special subsection for the central clause elements, the subject and the predicate verb.
